Bosch motors are known for their reliability, but once they’re out of warranty and after thousands of kilometres, they require proper maintenance.
At BiciFix, we are an official Bosch service centre.
We offer all the services that Bosch provides to its authorised dealers — including Bosch diagnostics, warranty processing, and parts replacement.
But we take it a step further.
We’ve spent years working directly inside these motors. Bosch does not sell internal parts or provide official service manuals, so we’ve invested significant time and resources in developing our own tools and repair procedures to safely and precisely open, service, and maintain Bosch eBike motors.
Repair and Maintenance of Bosch Gen4 eBike Motors (PerformanceLine CX)
Models: PerformanceLine CX and PerformanceLine CX SmartSystem. Common Name: Bosch Gen 4 (2019 – 2024)
If your motor has a large chainring and the label “PerformanceLine CX”, it’s most likely a Bosch Gen4.
These motors feature a magnesium housing and a much more compact design, but their repairs are more delicate and technically demanding.

Bosch Gen2 Motor Repair
Models: ActiveLine, PerformanceLine y PerformanceLine CX.
Common name: Bosch Generación 2 (2015–2018)
The robust and reliable motor that built Bosch’s reputation for durability.
We maintain customers with these motors who have already exceeded 55,000 kilometres.
Although very reliable, due to its construction – large gears, large body, this motor has a flaw – the rightside main bearing is weakly protected and can go bad very easily. Bosch released a repair kit, as this was a common problem, affecting many motors. Unfortunately, the repair kit includes only the right side of the motor, and not the other axle bearings, or the reduction gear bearings.
Bosch Gen 2 Kit Replacement
Bosch sell a repair kit for the Gen 2 motor that includes the whole right side of the motor. If maintenance is done regularly, changing this kit maybe sufficient.

Bosch Gen 2 Kit and Axle Bearing
Usually, both axle bearings are worn. This is the service that replaces the official kit (the right part of the motor), and the left axle bearing. The most common service on the Bosch Gen 2 Motors.

Bosch Gen 2 Full Overhaul
Full internal revision of the Bosch Gen 2 motor – we change the kit, and all the bearings inside. If your motor has more than 20,000kms, surely, this is what would be needed to make it run as new.

How Do I Find my Bosch Motor Model?
Bosch does not use an official generation numbering system (Gen1, Gen2, etc.).
The “Gen” terminology is informal and commonly used within the industry to simplify identification.
On this website, we use “Gen2” to refer to the earlier CX models and “Gen4” for the new-generation CX platform.
- Gen2 (common usage): “Classic” motors with a small chainring and internal reduction gear (2014–2019), including PerformanceLine and PerformanceLine CX models.
- Gen3 (common usage): ActiveLine, ActiveLine Plus, and PerformanceLine (non-CX) motors — designed for trekking and urban use, featuring a large chainring and lower torque output.
- Gen4 (common usage): Redesigned PerformanceLine CX and CargoLine motors — more compact, with a large chainring and a magnesium housing.
- System2: Bosch eBikes’s first electronic system, which includes the displays and communication interfaces.
- SmartSystem (BES3, 2022–): The electronic evolution of the Bosch ecosystem — including batteries, controllers, wiring, and software.

FAQ – Shipping & Repair Process for eBike Motors
Within Spain, we use MRW – we have direct contact with them, and so far our experience has been stellar. Outside of Spain depends on the country of origin of the motor.

The price depends on the model and the service requested, but it is usually between €250 and €350.
Payment can be made through Square with a payment card, PayPal, bank transfer, or Bizum.
After we receive your motor, we inspect it and send you a provisional invoice. If approved, we repair the motor. Once repaired and tested, we will provide you with a payment link. The motor will be sent to you after we get your payment.

Yes, in 90% of cases, the engines are repaired and continue to function.
En climas secos, los motores pueden alcanzar fácilmente 10 000 km. Para uso intensivo (enduro, downhill, lavados frecuentes), recomendamos una revisión cada 5 000 km y un mantenimiento completo cada 10 000 km.
Normalmente no. Esos ruidos suelen venir de los platos o de la transmisión. Mándanos un vídeo para ayudarte a identificar la causa.
No. Si el agua ha entrado, el proceso de oxidación ya ha comenzado. Solicita revisión lo antes posible.
Nunca apuntes el chorro de agua directamente al motor, especialmente en la zona de bielas, plato y conectores. Evita el uso de agua a presión.
No es recomendable. Si el motor da señales de necesitar lubricación, es momento de un mantenimiento interno.
Si el motor ya tiene holgura, nuestra recomendacion es llevar la bici al taller inmediatamente. Seguir con holgura, o con rodamientos ruidosos va a hacer mas danos a la bicicleta – la holgura provoca desgastes en piezas del motor que no estan disponibles, y los rodamientos oxidados permiten aun mas agua dentro.
Protégela temporalmente con cinta (americana o similar) y evita usar la bici bajo lluvia. Sustituye la tapa cuanto antes.
No, the anchors and dimensions are different. Some users have developed adapters, but this is not common practice.
In the case of Bosch Gen4, we do not recommend it – the motor is complicated to work with and requires some experience with the same motor in order to work.
