The complete bearing kit for Brose / Specialized Turbo motors is intended for the internal repair of Brose Alu and Brose Mag motors, which are also used in many Specialized Turbo e-bikes equipped with a Brose drive unit.

This kit is designed to repair common mechanical faults in these motors, such as worn bearings, internal noises, play, water ingress, loss of drive or problems with the one-way clutches.

It includes bearings and one-way clutches with part numbers PLB20121 to PLB20127. The PLB20126 and PLB20127 one-way clutches are the metal versions, which are more robust than the plastic-cage clutches used in some original motor versions.

What is included

PLB20121: left crankshaft bearing
PLB20122: right crankshaft bearing
PLB20123: inner crankshaft bearing
PLB20124: transmission gear/pulley bearing
PLB20125: small crankshaft needle bearing, with an additional seal
Metal PLB20126: one-way clutch for the transmission gear/pulley
Metal PLB20127: crankshaft one-way clutch

Improved protection

The needle bearing includes an additional seal that is installed before the bearing to improve protection against water and dirt entering the motor.

Water ingress is a common problem in Brose motors and can cause premature wear of the bearings and one-way clutches.

Installation

Installation requires opening the motor and using the appropriate tools.

To replace the one-way clutch located inside the pulley, the large pulley bearing must be removed and correctly reinstalled after the replacement.

The pulley must be heated in order to remove the gear race without damaging the assembly.

The specific belt-tensioning tool for Brose motors must always be used when installing and adjusting the belt. The correct torque setting for the belt tensioner is 0.2 Nm.

Important information about grease

The one-way clutches require a grease specifically designed for this type of component.

Standard greases, low-friction greases and greases containing additives such as Teflon, ceramic, MoS₂ or other solid additives must not be used. These products may cause the clutches to slip under load and fail prematurely.

We recommend using a grease specifically designed for Brose motor clutches.

Common symptoms of damaged one-way clutches

Internal cracking or crunching noises
Cranks spinning freely without correctly driving the chainring
Loss of internal drive
Absence or loss of the system’s characteristic clicking sounds
Intermittent engagement problems when force is applied to the pedals

BiciFix note

This kit is intended for workshops or users with experience in repairing e-bike motors. Incorrect installation may damage the motor.

If the belt has not been replaced recently, we recommend replacing it during the repair, especially if it has been used for more than 1,000 km or if the motor has been exposed to water, dirt or insufficient maintenance.
